Job Description – Biogas/Wastewater Automation Engineer


Job Title:                            Biogas/Wastewater Automation Engineer

Location:                           Appleton, WI



Job Summary:

The candidate must be able to work in a professional engineering team-based environment. Engineering teams are responsible for the design and integration of Biogas/ RNG Automation and control systems for Biogas, RNG, and Compression applications and processes. Duties may include and are not limited to SCADA, DCS, PLC, and HMI programming, network design, system commissioning, system support, internal/external training, and technical consultation. Areas of focus are controls standardization.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The following lists are general responsibilities that may vary from Project to Project
    Creating SCADA, DCS, PLC, and HMI programming, network design, and Diagnostic Libraries (AOIs, FBs, UDT, Faceplates, etc.)

  • Creating Quality Check Tools – used to validate standards were properly executed
    Creating Process for Standards deployment including input/outputs of deliverables and utilizing check-in/check-out and sign-off procedures to ensure Quality and Timing Milestones are met

  • Participate in Design Reviews and support Projects meetings

  • Train team members on project standards

  • Execute work within a budget, with exceptional quality, and on time

  • Forecast time/resources to complete remaining work

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and champion outcomes

  • Supervise activities of functionally assigned personnel, applying knowledge of automation concepts and procedures and production area knowledge

  • Execute, supervise, and verify all works aligns with customer specifications and expectations

  • Apply special knowledge of automation, controls engineering, and robotics where applicable

  • Travel to customer sites as necessary for the betterment of the team or to deliver optimal solutions   


Knowledge & Competencies:

  • PLC Programming

  • Rockwell – Studio5000, RSLogix 5

  • Siemens – TIA Portal V15+, Step 7

  • HMI Design

  • Ignition SCADA and HMI software

  • Rockwell – RS/FT View ME/SE

  • Siemens – TIA Portal Advanced, WinCC Flexible/SCADA

  • Computer Programming

  • Experience in one or more of the following: Visual Basic, C++, C#, Java, Python, etc.

  • General Networking - Ethernet troubleshooting and design of various hardware types and configurations

  • Network Address Translation

  • VLANs

  • Various Network Topologies (Star, Linear, Ring…)

  • Hardware Design to follow classifications

  • Understand electrical, pneumatic, and water schematics and complete the integration of industrial automation systems


Certificates and Licenses:


  • Bachelor’s degree in a control related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent)

  • Five plus years of applicable experience in an industrial environment that includes design, debug, startup, and production-readying of industrial automation and controls equipment.

The employee may occasionally be required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color.  The employee will be required to traverse stairs, ladders, and ships ladders. 


Work Environment:


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily exposed to an office environment.  While on project sites, the employee may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, and outdoor weather conditions in all seasons.  The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high/precarious places, around fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, in extreme cold, in extreme heat, animal manure, food waste products, biogas, confined spaces, loud noises, vibration, truck, and equipment traffic.




This will be a salary-based position paid bi-weekly, with annual compensation of $TBD.  In addition to the base salary, employees have the option to participate in a retirement savings program.  A health insurance program is also offered to all applicants.
